Poal and Calme: the silent heroes behind the auditorium in Yashobhoomi

The new Yashobhoomi, International Convention and Expo Centre in Dwarka, Delhi, is one of the largest convention centers in the world.

The breathtaking design of the large auditorium, with a capacity of around 6,000 people, is designed to offer perfect reverberation times. It combines the visual beauty of Indian culture with innovative acoustic technology.

How did we improve the sound quality in the auditorium?

Poal

The walls and ceiling of the auditorium are lined with the giant diamond Poal mesh. Its non-woven aluminium fibers sandwiched between the aluminium meshwork, absorb sound reflections over a wide frequency range with just an air gap.

Calme

The lower part of the walls is cladded with Calme, a unique sintered aluminium sound absorber. Calme is bonded to a perforated plasterboard to increase its impact resistance.

Calme sheets are highly sound absorbing with only an air space and no mineral wool.

This project pushed back the boundaries of architectural innovation by incorporating new technologies, using state-of-the-art finishing materials and implementing sustainable practices.
